Fire Destroys Residence in Waipi‘o Valley

No injuries were reported after a single-family structure in Waipi‘o Valley was destroyed in a Monday afternoon blaze.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the fire, located on Waipi‘o Valley Road, at 2:08 p.m. and arrived about 20 minutes later. When crews arrived on scene, they found a 20-foot-by-30-foot structure 80% burned with an extended burn perimeter of about 15 feet in all directions of foliage and trees. Residents were accounted for but not on scene at time of arrival.

HFD Co. 8 and volunteer Co. 8A responded to the blaze. Additional resources were dispatched ahead of arrival including multiple 4X4 HFD Brush Truck Units, Chopper 1 & Fuel Truck 2 support due to limited access on the valley floor.

Firefighters pumped water from the nearby river. Chopper 1 also made water bucket drops on the scene. The fire was declared out at 5:20 p.m.

No injuries occurred on scene and the incident is currently under investigation.
