KOA Runaway Reopens After Small Plane Suffers Landing Gear Failure

A portion of a runaway at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keaholē has reopened after it was shut down for two hours after a general aviation plane coming into land had a malfunction of collapsed landing gear.
The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. Aircraft Rescue and Hawaii Fire Department responded to the runaway. According to Hawaii Department of Transportation, lone pilot was not injured in the incident and a portion of the runway had been shut down while the plane was removed.
The airport remained open for commercial flights, however, some airlines diverted flights.
As of 11:25 a.m., the runaway was completely reopened.
