Kona Man Arrested, Charged in Domestic Abuse Investigation
A Big Island man faces charges following an investigation into an incident that happened earlier this week at a Kona residence.
According to Big Island police, 26-year-old Miguel Cancino Magana of Kona was arrested and charged Wednesday, May 25, with two counts of abuse of a family household member.
During the course of their investigation, police learned Cancino Magana got into a verbal argument that became physical with his live-in girlfriend Tuesday, May 24, at their residence. While the couple’s 2-year-old child was present, Cancino Magana allegedly strangled the victim by placing both of his hands around her neck while pressing her against a wall, nearly causing her to pass out. He also allegedly struck the victim in the face and threatened her with a firearm.
Cancino Magana was located in the early morning hours Wednesday in Kona and arrested.
During the conclusion of the investigation, four firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition were recovered. After conferring with the county prosecutor’s office, Cancino Magana was charged with two counts of felony abuse of a family household member and his bail was set at $20,000.
His initial court appearance was Wednesday in Kona Family Court.
