COVID Weekly Update: 850 New Cases Reported on Big Island
The state Department of Health reported 7,149 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, May 18, bringing the statewide total to 265,571. Twelve new fatalities were reported.
A total of 850 new infections were identified Wednesday on the Big Island. A map documenting new cases by district throughout all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.
The island-by-island case count is as follows:
O‘ahu: 183,391
Hawaiʻi: 29,275
Maui: 31,024
Kaua‘i: 13,324
Moloka‘i: 1,043
Lana‘i: 724
Pending: 0
Out-of-State: 6,790
Of those total cases, 8,917 required hospitalization, with 91 currently hospitalized. At least 1,446 have died since the pandemic began. Hospitalization data is updated Monday through Friday, except on state and federal holidays.
