Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Lūʻau Hale in Hilo will remain closed to the public through December 2022.
County officials initially shuttered the facility’s doors in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic when all community centers were closed. In September 2020, Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency and the Department of Health ended up using the building as a COVID operations center.
The Civil Defense and DOH continue to utilize this area for their operations while the permanent Civil Defense office building undergoes renovations. A public notice will be issued once the facility reopens for public use.
