Hilo Man Slated to Appear in 3rd Circuit Court on Sex Assault Charges Involving a Minor

A Hilo man was indicted on various charges of sexual assault involving a minor.

Thirty-seven-year-old Ryan Reis is facing five counts of third-degree sexual assault and continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14. Charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between Aug. 1, 2017, and Oct. 31, 2018.

The 37-year-old is currently in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail and scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo Circuit Court.

The most serious offense, continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14 is a class A felony offense that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

At the time of his arrest for these charges, Reis was also arrested for an unrelated District Court warrant.

This is the second Hilo man to be arraigned in 3rd Circuit Court within days on charges related to sexual abuse of a minor. A bench warrant was issued for 64-year-old Paul Kanaina Kaelemakule Caitano on Wednesday, April 27, after an indictment was filed in 3rd Circuit Court for 23 counts of sex assault involving a minor.

The offenses allegedly occurred from 2014-18.
