Big Island Press Club Offers Scholarships

A Big Island organization is offering scholarships for students interested in journalism.

The Big Island Press Club will award up to $1,500 scholarships for students pursuing higher education in journalism and related careers. Last year, the club awarded a total of $4,000 to four Hawai’i Island students.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have Big Island residential ties.
  • Demonstrate an interest in journalism or a related career.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time college student or a high school student accepted for college.
  • Show a record of academic achievement.

Awards include the Robert C. Miller Memorial Scholarship, the Bill Arballo Scholarship, the Marcia Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, the Yukino Fukubori Memorial Scholarship, the Jack Markey Memorial Scholarship and the Hugh Clark Memorial Scholarship.

Application deadline is April 30. Announcement of winners will be made during a BIPC event online, the date and time of which is to be announced.

Applications are available at the BIPC website. Click on the “Scholarships” tab and then “Apply for a Press Club Scholarship.” For more information, email [email protected].
