The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for West Hawaiʻi until 4:30 p.m.
At 1:19 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over leeward and interior Big Island, with some showers falling at a rate of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour. The heaviest rainfall was observed near Milolii and Puuanahulu, and additional showers were developing upslope of Saddle Road junction. Expect additional showers to develop through the afternoon.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waikoloa Village, Honalo, Holualoa, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Kahaluʻu-Keauhou, Hōnaunau, Pohakuloa Training Area, Kalaoa, Pōhakuloa Camp, Puako, Hawaiian Ocean View, Kona International Airport, Waikiʻi, Waikoloa Beach and Mauna Lani.
Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams may occur. Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 4:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
