Fatal Crash Closes Portion of Māmalahoa Highway in S. Kona

A portion of Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 11) in South Kona is shut down in both directions due to a fatal car crash this morning.

At 6:51 a.m., Hawaiʻi police sent out an email reporting a crash had occurred in Captain Cook in front of Shiraki’s Dry Cleaners.

It is unknown how many vehicles or victims were involved in the collision at this time. HPD is still on scene.

Southbound traffic on Highway 11 is being detoured onto Halekiʻi Street near mile marker 112 to the Māmalahoa Bypass Road. Northbound motorists traveling on Highway 11 are being detoured to Māmalahoa Bypass Road from the Napoʻopoʻo-Highway 11 Junction near mile marker 110.3.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency advises the public to expect the section of Highway 11 to remain closed for the next several hours.
