HVNP Announces November Flight Operations
Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for November 2021. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
The flight schedule is below:
Nov. 15 between 7-10 a.m., for vegetation monitoring project support in the East Rift Zone of Kīlauea between 3,000- and 4,000-ft. elevation.
Nov. 19 between 7-10 a.m., for vegetation monitoring project support in the East Rift Zone of Kīlauea between 3,000- and 4,000-ft. elevation.
Nov. 23 between 6:30-8:30 a.m., for ungulate survey in Kahuku between 4,000- and 7,000-ft. elevation.
Nov. 30 between 7-10 a.m., for Hawaiian petrel monitoring on Mauna Loa between 6000-ft. and 9000-ft. elevation.
In addition, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
