HPD Arrests 24 For DUI

Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 864 DUI arrests compared with 802 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.7%.

There have been 647 major accidents so far this year compared with 633 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.2%. 

To date, there have been 21 fatal crashes resulting in 21 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 61.5% for fatal crashes and 61.5% for fatalities. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
