Blaze Destroys Gazebo in Pāhoa Subdivision

No injuries were reported after a gazebo-type structure went up in flames in a Pāhoa subdivision Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Hawaiʻi Fire Department responded to the blaze at approximately 7:33 p.m., which was located on Iolani Street in the Kalapana Black Sands subdivision. When crews arrived on scene, they found a 10-foot-by-10-foot wood-framed free-standing structure fully engulfed in flames.

The blaze was contained to the gazebo and some of the surrounding bushes. The owner of the property was not on scene at the time.

The fire was put out and all other units en route to the scene were canceled. Hawaiʻi Police Department also responded to gather information from neighbors about the incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The estimated damage is $6,000.
