Flood Advisory Issued For Several Sections of Big Island

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Honolulu issued a flood advisory for several portions of Hawai´i County late Monday night.

At 11:16 pm, radar indicated heavy rain over the windward side of the Big Island with rainfall rates between 1 and 3 inches per hour. The NWS advisory is in effect until 2:15 am, though it could be extended if rainfall persists.

Some locations that may experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapa´au, Honoka´a, Honomu, Papaikou, Pepe´ekeo, Hakalau, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Mountain View, O´okala, Glenwood, Volcano, Pa´auilo, Kea´au, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates and Hawai´i Volcanoes National Park.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
