Weather Service Issues Red Flag Fire Alert For All Hawaiian Islands
The National Weather Services has issued a red flag warning for the leeward portion of all Hawaiian Islands until 6 pm Friday evening.
Gusty winds in combination with dry fuels and low relative humidity levels will result in elevated fire danger throughout the day. Any fires that develop will spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
East to northeast trade winds are expected at 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity is expected to range from 35% to 45% during the afternoon hours.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. A red flag warning does not predict new fire starts.
