Both lanes on a section of Aliʻi Drive are now open following the clearing of a downed utility pole.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department first reported the closure on Aliʻi Drive, at Queen Kalama, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13. Hawaiian Electric responded to the scene that evening and worked to repair the downed pole throughout the night.

The downed pole caused a widespread power outage among customers in the area. At approximately 8:20 p.m., officials reported more than 1,200 people were without power.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the main thoroughfare through Kailua-Kona was finally cleared and traffic allowed to resume.
