Hilo Man Appears in Court on Sexual Assault Charges of a Minor
A Hilo man was taken into custody over the weekend on multiple charges of first-degree sexual assault.
Twenty-three-year-old Temaura’i Border appeared via video in 3rd District Court in Puna Monday morning for an initial appearance. Border is charged with four counts of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree attempted sexual assault and third-degree sexual assault.
The deputy public defender argued Border be granted supervised release, which was denied. The court maintained bail at $260,000. The Hilo man is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Offenses stem from incidents that occurred between May and August of this year. According to the complaint filed in 3rd Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 30, Border knowingly engaged in sexual acts with a 13-year-old.
Court documents further allege the reported assaults continued after the child turned 14 years old.
First-degree sexual assault and first-degree attempted sexual assault are class A felonies, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
