The Hawai´i Fire Department rescued a hiker from the banks of the Wailuku River on Monday.

The initial report of a male in his 20s stranded by injury in the Boiling Pots area was made to HFD at 11:37 am. According to a departmental release, he was hiking by the river when he slipped and fell.

Fire rescue specialists placed the injured hiker on a spineboard as a precaution. HFD Chopper 1 extricated the hiker via the use of a long line. He was then transported by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.

HFD extended a reminder to residents and visitors to pay attention to the access and hazard warning signs along the Wailuku River.
