Water Shutoff Scheduled in South Hilo Starting March 17
Water will be temporarily turned off in South Hilo next week for the installation of a new water line for the Kalaniana‘ole Avenue Reconstruction Project.
The affected areas include along Kalaniana‘ole Avenue between Banyan Way and the Fed Ed Ground Building, including Kea Street, Kumau Street, Ocean View Drive and all connecting private roads.
The shutoff will occur overnight on March 17 from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday, March 18.
Upon the resumption of water service, the water lines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time
you may notice turbid and/or discolored water.
You may also notice trapped air in your plumbing, which will be released as you initially use water.
Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect the customers’
property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any
other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply, and
which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shut-off.
