Big Island Now Meterologist Malika Dudley interviewed National Weather Service Pacific Region Deputy Director Tom Evans this morning, who presented an update on Lane, now a tropical storm.
BULLET POINTS
- Tropical Storm Warning dropped for Big Island
- Warning in place for other islands as of 8 a.m., Aug. 25
- 115 miles S of O‘ahu moving very slowly NNW
- As it moves west, warnings and watches will begin to be dropped
- Deep moisture will likely produce rain through tomorrow
BIG ISLAND
- Winds not expected but more rain is forecast
- The Big Island has already received over 40 inches in some areas
- Roads have been closed due to flooding and landslides
- Residents have been evacuated
- There are still flood waters coming out of the mountains, that is why flash flood warning is still in effect even though it may not be raining right now
- The soil is saturated, so any rainfall poses a danger for flash flooding
