SXSW Festival Seeking Hawai‘i Island Creative Talent
South by Southwest (SXSW)—the world’s largest interactive, music, tech and film conference and festival—is seeking creative talent in Hawai‘i of all types to participate in its 32nd annual event to be held March 8 to 17, 2019, in Austin, Texas.
The event coordinators will host a meet-and-greet on Hawai‘i Island on Tuesday, July 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Kona at Honua Studios located at 73-4855 Kanalani Street. Artists may submit their creative work during this event, and meet with veterans in the industry. Interested talent must RSVP to attend the free event as space is limited. The SXSW event will feature programmers, musicians, entrepreneurs, tech developers and film producers.
The first Hawai‘i artist showcased in the SXSW event was HAPA during the late 1990s. In 2009,
John Cruz, Anuhea, David Tamaoka, Pimpbot and One Right Turn played a series of live performances and in 2010, Anuhea & The Green and Pimpbot returned with Kona, Tavana, Sabrina and Yahiowa 13.
