Lifeguards Rescues Kayaker in Distress

On Sunday, July 1, 2018, the Hawai‘i County Fire Department responded to a kayaker in distress offshore of Mahukona Park in North Kohala.
Company 15 arrived on the scene to find a male party in a kayak approximately two miles from Mahukona Park and unable to return to shore.
Upon arrival of Company 15, Chopper 2 was on scene with visual of the distressed party. Chopper 2 hovered over the kayaker until the arrival of Ocean Safety Lifeguards on jet ski. Lifeguards towed the kayak and occupant to Mahukona wharf. No emergency medical services were needed.
