LETTER: Kealakehe Elementary Needs Additional Parking
I am just a parent from Kealakehe Elementary School reaching out and trying to do what is right for our keiki, teachers, parents and community. We have around 1000 students which requires a large staff that we have not had the abilities to provide parking for. We received $300,000 in capital funding to provide additional parking in 2015, that we have yet to utilize. The school only has three years to use these funds or they lose these funds… which happens to be next month, June 2018.
It has been decided to encumber the funds by bidding out (12) parking spaces in a pre-existing parking lot/ roundabout in a location that is quite far from the school which already has vacant spaces during school hours. We have discussed alternative parking plans in the past and there are other options in a more favorable vicinity that would provide more than (12) parking spaces.
I am reaching out for your assistance in gaining community support and encouraging the DOE to efficiently utilize the $300,000 received by signing and sharing views on our petition page. We need parking at Kealakehe Elementary School, have the funds, but do not feel (12) spaces is a beneficial use of $300,000.00. We need a better solution!
