Congress to Hold Press Conference on Net Neutrality National Day of Action
Sens. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Congressman Mike Doyle (Penn.-14), Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi ( Calif.-12) will be joined by members of Congress, technology companies, grassroots organizations, advocates, and public interest groups at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in support of the net neutrality national day of action.
Last week, the Federal Communications Commission published in the Federal Register its final rule to repeal the Open Internet order. At the press conference, Sens. Schumer and Markey will discuss momentum for the Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval, which stands at 50 supporters, along with efforts to find one more vote in order to overturn the FCC’s net neutrality decision.
Rep. Doyle’s resolution in the House of Representatives currently has 144 co-sponsors. Democrats plan to force a vote on the resolution in the coming months, putting Republicans on notice that they will have to choose to side with big cable and telecommunications companies or with the majority of Americans—small businesses, entrepreneurs, innovators, students, technology start-ups—that support net neutrality.
The event will be available live here.
