Electrical Fire in HPP Caused by Lightning

The Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to an electrical fire at a single family dwelling on 30th Avenue in Paradise Park at 3:42 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke visible from the rear patio of structure. A stove fire had been extinguished with a portable extinguisher by Hawai‘i Police Department officers.

The fire was caused due to a lightning strike to the ground near the back patio of the dwelling.

Firefighters removed the stove from the kitchen as well as unplugged and shut off a gas line. All the breaker switches to the home was turned off. The home was ventilated by a smoke ejector and firefighters advised the occupant to contact the owner and an electrician to have the electrical damage fixed and repaired.

The loss was valued at $2,500 and there were no injuries reported.
