Volcano Art Center to Host Special Event on ʻAlalā Bird

Volcano Art Center will host a special outreach event on the ʻAlalā, Hawai‘i’s native crow, on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m in Volcano Village.

Staff from the ʻAlalā Project will provide an update on the latest efforts to reintroduce the endangered and endemic bird. The ʻAlalā is considered a highly intelligent and unique crow species with an important role in native Hawaiian culture and ecosystems.

The ʻAlalā Project is a partnership between the State of Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and San Diego Zoo Global.

The free event will be held at Volcano Art Center’s Ni‘aulani Campus located at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village. A $5 donation will be accepted and appreciated. For more information, visit www.volcanoartcenter.org.
