PHOTOS: Firefighters Battle Blaze on Ululani Street, Hilo

UPDATE 2: Dec. 12, 2017, 10:49 p.m.

Four Hawai‘i County Fire Department companies arrived on the scene of a three-story apartment fire at 270 Ululani St. in Hilo at 3:06 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017.

Upon arrival, the third story, one-bedroom unit was found to be fully involved in flames.

All occupants were evacuated with assistance from the Hawai‘i Police Department.

The fire from involved unit extended to a common attic space and adjacent apartment unit.

The fire extinguished was extinguished with multiple hand lines at 4:02 p.m.

All residents of the complex have been evacuated until the fire alarm system is restored and the electrical system is evaluated.

Red Cross opened an evacuation shelter at the Butler Building at 260 Kalanikoa St. in Hilo for residents evacuated from their apartments.

The scene was released to the HPD and the HFD fire inspector for investigation.

UPDATE 1, 5:45 p.m.: The Hawai‘i Police Department reports Ululani Street in Hilo is now open in both directions.

Avoid Ululani Street between Haili Street and Ponahawai Street in Hilo due to road closure. Hawai‘i Fire Department and Hawai‘i Police Department personnel are investigating a structure fire. No injuries are reported at this time.
