Pacific Media Group Donates AM Stations to Church
Pacific Media Group has donated two separate Hawai‘i Island AM radio stations to a local nonprofit religious organization, King’s Cathedral & Chapels.
The radio stations, KLHO AM 850 and KKON AM 790, have broadcast local sports coverage as an ESPN affiliate under the direction and support of longtime Hawai‘i Island sports broadcaster Josh Pacheco.
As part of growth plans for the future, PMG made the decision to donate these AM stations and transition local sports coverage to the much larger platform available through PMG’s leading news website on Hawai‘i Island, BigIslandNow.com, which ranks No. 1 in web searches for “Big Island news.”
“This is entirely a platform shift and strategic growth initiative,” said PMG CEO Chuck Bergson. “AM listenership has been in steady decline and the digital products, namely our BigIslandNow.com website, has exploded in growth. In working with our talented news and editorial team to bring our Hawai‘i Island sports coverage to BigIslandNow.com, we are able to reach tens of thousands more local residents than ever possible with AM radio.”
PMG has owned and operated KLHO and KKON for over 10 years.
“Our dedicated sports fans on Hawai‘i Island will now be able to read, watch and engage with local sports coverage,” said Jack Dugan, COO and director of digital products for Pacific Media Group. “The local community will benefit from the ability to view and share local sports coverage with family and friends through any smartphone, computer or tablet. Local sports fans can also submit their own photos and video, which can be picked up for coverage on BigIslandNow.com.”
BigIslandNow.com provides free local news and information content to local residents as well as visiting travelers.
