Man Injured in Volcano Home Fire

A man sustained burns while trying to extinguish a residential fire at 11-3894 Nahelenani St. in Volcano on Hawai‘i Island on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017.

The Hawai‘i Fire Department arrived on the scene at 6:26 p.m. to find a single-story residential structure fully involved in flames.

All three occupants were at home at the time and were able to exit the structure.

The injured man was transported to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition.

Two minors—a male and a female—didn’t sustain any noticeable injuries, but were also transported to Hilo Medical Center for precautionary measures and further evaluation.

Damage from the fire was estimated at $80,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
