Big Island firefighters arrived at the scene of an older, single-family home on ag land, fully engulfed in flames on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at 7:05 p.m  in North Kohala on Kapa‘au Road.

Multiple large propane tanks on the property were exploding and live, arcing power lines on the ground blocked the main access.

The structure collapsed before the Hawai‘i Fire Department arrived.

The fire wasn’t extinguished until 11:30 due to the absence of fire hydrants in the area and difficult access to the structure.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
