Woman Found Dead Offshore of Hakalau

The Hawai‘i County Fire Department responded to a report of an opihi picker in distress offshore of Hakalau near the 15-mile marker of Highway 19 (Māmalahoa Highway) on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at 1:36 p.m.
First-responders arrived on scene and to find a woman in her 20s woman on the shoreline with no signs of life.
Due to the terrain, HFD Rescue personnel utilized a helicopter to extricate the body.
The cause of death is unknown.

The scene was turned over to the Hawai‘i Police Department for investigation.
