Thomas J. Taylor Sr.
September 29, 1947 – July 2, 2017
Thomas J. Taylor Sr., 69, of Hilo, passed away on July 2, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on Sept. 29, 1947 to Alvin Taylor and Ann Rescheck.
Thomas was a world traveler, but decided to settle in Hawai‘i in the 90s, and would always express the beauty of Hawaiian life in rich color, texture, and design through his abstract view, admiration and appreciation for the collection and distribution of fine arts. He is survived by Son; Thomas “Taj” John Taylor Jr., daughters; Ivy Taylor Murphy (Shawn), Amber Rose Taylor, brother; George M. Taylor, Sisters; Joan Taylor Icker, Linda Taylor Charles, Deborah Taylor, step-brother; Johnny Alvin Taylor, Grandchildren; Rachael Murphy, and Andrew, James, and Matthew Duesher. Also numerous cousin, nieces, and nephews in Illinois and Wisconsin. Thomas was preceded in death by his brother James Allen Taylor.

Rosalie C. Combis
April 8, 1959 – July 20, 2017
Rosalie C. Combis, 58, passed away on July 20, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Rosalie was born on O‘ahu on April 8, 1959. She is survived by her daughter Beke-lu Nakila (Kaleo), brothers; Byron Tolbe (Amy), Jacob Poki (Johnette), sisters; Saundra Tolbe, Darlene Combis, Roinna Abrams, Honey Girl Kamalu (Calvin), as well as numerous nieces, nephews grandchildren grand nieces, grand nephews and great grandchildren.

Gretchen Lawaelani Margaret Kamai
September 29, 1946 – July 18, 2017
Gretchen Lawaelani Margaret Kamai, 70, of Hilo passed away at Hilo Medical Center on July 18, 2017. Gretchen was born in Honolulu on Sept. 29, 1946 to John Kaneakua and Bernice Brown. She is survived by her husband Roy James Kamai Sr., sons; Roy James Kamai Jr., Bode Jarom Kamai, daughters; Rolene Spaulding, Bernice Lola Tenney, Rhonda Kamai-Kekela, Kimberly Desamito, brother; John Kaneakua, sisters; Lucinda Kovasic, Ivory Stone, Penny “Babes” Makanani, as well as 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
There will be a service in Gretchen’s remembrance at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1373 Kilauea Ave, Hilo, on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 with public viewing starting from 8 to 10 a.m., funeral service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and burial to follow at noon at Veterans Cemetery # 2. Herman Santana
September 23, 1941 – July 15, 2017
Herman Santana, 75, of Pāhoa, passed away at his home in Pāhoa surrounded by the love of his daughter, wife and two of his grandchildren. Herman was born Sept. 23, 1941, on the Big Island in Hakalau. While living on the Big Island he worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife Pearl Quintal, son; Kevin Santana of Hilo, daughters; Shela Santana (Lee) of Pahoa, Shereen Santana of O‘ahu, and Shundel Santana of Idaho. Herman is also survived by his brothers; Herbert Santana of Pahoa, Johnny Santana of Pāhoa, his sister Alice Mercado of Pāhoa, and was blessed with 12 grandchildren.
Services for Herman will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo on Aug. 12, 2017 with public viewing starting at 10:30 a.m., funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., and a burial to take place at 1:30 a.m. at Alae cemetery in Hilo.

Phillip Eugene Paranial
February 8, 1952 – July 14, 2017
Phillip Eugene Paranial, 65, of Hilo, passed away on July 14, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Phillip was born on Feb. 8, 1952 in Hilo to Eugenio and Louisa E. Paranial.
He is survived by his brother Charlie Paranial of Kona and his sister Carol (Manuel) Laboy of Oregon. There will be a service for Phillip held at Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo on Aug. 18, 2017 at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.

Guy Joseph Ragasa, 63, of Kahului passed away on July 24, 2017. He was born on March 17, 1954, in Wailuku, Maui.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 10 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial park Cemetery.
Guy worked for the County of Maui, Department of Water Supply. He is survived by his mother, Alice Ragasa; son, Stacey (Jena) Ragasa; and two grandchildren, Ka-Sandra and Jer-Zee.
Paulette Sumiko Pua’a
September 5, 1954 – July 22, 2017
Paulette Sumiko Pua’a, 62, of Wailuku, passed away on July 22, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Ho‘olehua, Moloka‘i.
Paulette worked for the Hyatt Hotel as a Banquet Captain.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Kanani Tabon (Karen); sons, Chad Tabon-Sniffen (Imelda), Kainalu Kaina (Shantelle), and Ali’ikoa Kaina (Ann); sisters, Namaka Pua’a, Lawaina Mali’ikapu, Dahna Kikuyama, Ursula Pua’a-Freitas, and Nohea Pua’a; brother, Daniel Pua’a; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Jordan S. Canha Sr.
September 20, 1938 – July 20, 2017
Jordan is survived by his wife, Karen Canha; daughter, Jody (Edward) Vegas; son, Jordan (Desiree) Canha Jr; grandchildren, Lance (Randi) Vegas, Layne (Alena) Vegas, Davin Canha, Jacob Canha; great grandchildren, Aliyah Vegas, Keithen Vegas, Wailoa Vegas; sisters, Sylvia Perreira, Anita Sing and brother, Abraham Stanley Canha. He is predeceased by his parents, August and Grace Canha and brother, August Canha Jr.

Florasol Cadang Daliva, 84, of Wailuku, passed away on July 20, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 15, 1933, in the Philippines.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at St Anthony Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery, main section. The family requests casual attire.
Florasol was a retired Kitchen helper from Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Eustaquio Daliva. She is survived by her son, Efren (Irene) Daliva; daughters, Merlyn (Leonard) Nagata, Linda Dunn; 8 grandchildren; many hanai grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Gary I. Yoshimori
April 1, 1947 – July 19, 2017
Gary I. Yoshimori, 70, of Wailuku, passed away on July 19, 2017 at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Honolulu. He was born on April 1, 1947.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission.
Gary was a P.E. Teacher and taught at Lahainaluna High School, and Iao Intermediate School.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Yoshimori; children, Grayden Yoshimori, Aubrey (John) Palpallatoc, and Brysen Yoshimori; brothers, Alvin (Sandra) Yoshimori, and Glenn (Minnie) Yoshimori; sister, Lorraine (Richard) Miyahara; grandchildren, Gaven and Talan Yoshimori, and Juliann Palpallatoc.
Henry Kaauamo Jr.
November 11, 1938 – July 14, 2017
Visitation will be held at St Rita’s Catholic Church in Haiku on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., mass will be celebrated at noon.
Henry is survived by his wife, Pansy (Kele) Kaauamo, their children: Bryan (Tina) Kaauamo, Lori (Scott) Williamson, Keith (Noe Kalanikau) Kaauamo, Laura (Keith) Nakamura; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Awapuhi (Danny) Carmichael, Frank (Eloise) Kaauamo, Kiele (Bill-deceased) Frame, Puaala (Jerome-deceased) Kekiwi, Puanani (deceased) Kaauamo, Pualani (Kaipo-deceased) Kimokeo, Opuulani (Walter) Kuluhiwa, Healani (Edrick) McDade, Blase Kaauamo, Ehukai (Robert) Alidon, Fred (deceased) Kaauamo, Anthony (Vicki) Kaauamo. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and extended ohana.
Life Story for Henry Kaauamo Jr.
Henry Kaauamo Jr, 78 of Kula passed away on July 14, 2017. Henry was born on Nov. 11, 1938 to Henry and Sarah (Hueu) Kaauamo. His childhood was spent being raised in Ke’anae, Maui. He attended Ke’anae School and later St. Anthony High School. He was a proud Marine and honorably discharged. While in the military he married his wife of 58 years, Pansy. They had four children together and raised their family in Kula, Maui.
Henry retired from Grace Pacific Paving Co. Prior to retirement and enjoying time with family and friends, he worked for numerous companies in the construction, tour industries, and was also a Fleet Examiner. Some companies he worked for were; Grayline Hawaii, Maui Island Tours, Maui Dry Goods, Rojac Trucking, Maui Island Lowboy, and a few others.
