Enrollment for 2018 Health Insurance Begins Nov. 1
The open enrollment period to apply for 2018 Marketplace health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) begins Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 15, 2017. This is the only opportunity to enroll or renew Marketplace insurance for 2018, unless someone experiences a life qualifying event such as a loss of health insurance, change in household, new marriage, newborn baby or a loss of income.
Those who already have Marketplace health insurance are advised to review their account information and affirmatively select a plan. The State of Hawai‘i helps income-qualified individuals and families pay premiums through the Premium Assistance Program. To qualify, residents must apply for MedQUEST insurance through the state and receive a denial notice. Residents may then apply for Marketplace insurance online at Healthcare.gov.
Under the ACA, individuals without qualifying health coverage will be fined $695 per adult and $347.50 per child.

Marketplace health insurance seeks to provide affordable health insurance to subscribers. Those who are eligible may receive advanced premium tax credits to help with insurance premiums and costs. Insurance coverage can begin as early as Dec. 1, 2017.
