William Kaohu Kahakua Sr., 89, of Mountain View, passed away on June 10, 2017. William was born on Jan. 31, 1928, in Ka’u. Visitation 9 a.m., Mass to follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 22, 2017, at St Theresa Catholic Church, 18-1355 Volcano Highway, Mountain View, 96771.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Kahakua; sons, William (Pamela) Kahakua Sr., Paul (Barbra) Kahakua and George Kahakua Sr.; daughter, Laurie (Michael) Ignacio; brothers, James (Nora) Kahakua, Herbert (Karen) Kahakua and Frank (Rita) Duran; sisters, Julia Amaral, Gladis Wilson, Elizabeth (Chris) Asuncion, Elenore Kepner and Lily (Gene) Mariaga, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

April 10, 1928 – July 4, 2017

Theodore D. Deponte, 89, of Kula, passed away on July 4, 2017, at his home under the care of family and hospice Maui. He was born on April 10, 1928, in Kula.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary; eulogy will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Theodore was a retired Carpenter and Rancher. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Deponte. He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Debra) Deponte, Joseph Deponte; daughter, Pamela Deponte; brothers, Arthur Deponte, Erwin Deponte, Clifford Deponte; eight grandchildren, Ivy, Douglas Jr., Michael, Joshua, Cody, Carley Jo, Dustin, Jesse; and three great grandchildren, Jordan, Makani and Lola.

Petra Domingcil Rivera, 85, of Kahului, Maui, passed away on June 23, 2017, at her home, under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on July 12, 1931, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church; prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church; mass will begin at 9:30 a.m.; burial will follow, 10:30 a.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Petra was a retired planter at Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company. She is survived by her husband, Ignacio Rivera; children, Marcelino (Esmenia) Rivera, Florentino (Conchita) Rivera, Leonor Rivera Rafael, Sonny (Erlinda) Rivera, Mark (Lucia) Rivera; sisters, Lucena Calma of the Philippines, Elena Ramos of the Philippines; 14 grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Kathleen (William) Dominno, Bradley James Rivera, Philip (Janelle) Rafael, Lorna Rafael, Carlene (Jay-Me) Morita, Joel (Angela) Rivera, Jonathan (Vangie) Rivera, James Rivera, Lianne Rivera, Bethany Rivera, Mark Andrew Rivera, Hosea Rivera; and eight grandchildren, Christian Isaiah Dominno, Kayla Deanne Dominno, Auvay Rafael, Naiara Rafael, Nikki Rafael, Kamaehulei McEwen, Isabella Roldan, Kylee Rivera, Mailani Rivera, and Ayana Rivera.

Julia B. Kakihara
March 26, 1925 – June 18, 2017

Julia B. Kakihara, 92, of Kahului, Maui passed away on June 18, 2017, at Hale Makua Kahului. She was born on March 26, 1925, in Ha‘ikū.

Private services were held. The family requests no koden.

Julia was a retired Administrative Assistant for Ige Construction. She was predeceased by her husband, Satoru Kakihara. She is survived by her son, Brian (Jiwoo) Kakihara; daughters, Jane (Daniel) Takahashi, Ione (Rowan) Chong; and grandchildren, Rylan Chong, Jon Takahashi, Chaysen Chong and Kelsie Chong.
