Sally Louise Turner Gerhart
July 22, 1944–June 28, 2017
Sally Louise Turner Gerhart passed into the pages of memory on June 28, 2017, at her home in Holualoa, Hawai‘i. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers and in her honor, the family requests donations be made to Kona Hospice, their help and generosity was invaluable during her final weeks.
Sally, the third of four children, was born July 22, 1944, in Glendale, California, to Arthur Moffett Turner (of Oklahoma) and Mary Kathryn (Higgins) Turner (of Oklahoma).
On Aug. 14, 1988, she was married to Daniel J. Gerhart at Orinda, California. In 1993, after a career in computer programming and systems management, she and Dan retired. They moved to Hawaiʻi in the year 2001 after several happy retirement years in North Idaho.
She will be remembered for her gardening and landscaping skills that created a showplace yard. Her family and friends will also have fond memories of the many wonderful dinner parties she hosted. She worked diligently on her family genealogy, tracing her roots back centuries and leaving a legacy for the future. She loved playing Scrabble and was a formidable opponent. NY Times crosswords and Sudoku were her daily challenge.
She is survived by her husband Daniel; her daughter Theresa Cabrera Menard (Trae) and grandsons Louis Michael Menard and Paul Timothy Menard, all of Kapaa, Kauai; her sister Thelma (Rick) Darwicki of Yorba Linda, CA; and her step-children Michael (Valencia) Gerhart of Alameda, CA, Laura Gerhart of Grass Valley, CA, and Steven Gerhart of Jamestown, ND.
