Hawai‘i County Fire Department personnel arrived at Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse
on Friday, June 9, 2017, in response to a report of an opihi picker who was swept into the ocean by wave action.
They arrived at 9:58 a.m. to find an unresponsive male in offshore waters.
Two bystanders assisted the victim away from the rocky shoreline and were met by lifeguards on Ski-1.
The victim, in his 60s, was pulled from the water by fire department rescue personnel via a Billy Pugh net.
The victim was transported to an awaiting medic at the lighthouse for emergency medical services assessment.

The victim was found to have no signs of life and was released to the Hawai‘i Police Department.
