Ronald John Torres Sr., 69, of Pāhoa, passed away on May 22, 2017. Ronald was born on April 13, 1948, in Honolulu.

He is survived by sons; James Bruno Rodrigues(step son); Ronald John “Bear” Torres Jr.; Kainoa Kaneakua (Donna) Torres; John Ikaika Torres and Kainoa Kaneakua Torres (sons of Coco Torres), daughters; Ronalyn Tomiko Torres; Jennifer Marie Kuuipo Carter; Cindy Lokelani (Derek) Kaneakua and Candis Kuuipo Torres (daughter of Debra “Gypsy” Victorino), brothers; George Torres Jr., Daniel Torres, Nathan (Marieta) Torres Sr. and Matthew (Mamie) Milo, sisters; April (James Sr.) Moniz; Irene (John) Duque; Victoria “Momi” Torres; Nellanette (Hanalei) Nunis, 16 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by mother; Isabella Kaneakua, father; George Torres Sr., twin brother; Richard Torres Sr, sisters; Jeannie Terminello and Maryann Milo.

Robert Campbell Hons
June 30, 1941 – May 20, 2017

Robert “Bobby” Campbell Hons, 74, of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi, was born in Honolulu. Bobby was a partner and a founder of Willocks Construction Company.

He is survived by spouse Pamela; sons Bradford Kanekoa “Koa” Hons of Olympia, WA; Michael Keone (Beth Perkins) Singlehurst of Rockaway Beach, NY; daughter Miki (Joe) Kapisi of Pukalani, Maui; sisters Dotchie (Bobby) Alo of Kahului, Maui; Marie Toledo of North Dakota; Liz (Verlin) Gilkerson of Elk Grove, CA; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Hawaiʻi Hospice.

Private services will be held.

William Wayne Elaban
May 30, 1949 – May 19, 2017

William Wayne Elaban, 67, of Mt. View and a Navy Veteran, passed away on May 19, 2017. He was born on May 30, 1949 in Honolulu. Service to be announced.

He is survived by his spouse Cynthia Lynn Elaban; sons William Llewellyn Elaban, Ryan Christopher (Lina) Elaban, Trevon A. Elaban, Kepa A. Elaban and Rome Joseph A. Elaban; daughters Tiea Noelani Elaban, Amiea Maye (Pat Upky) Elaban and Ala A. Elaban; brothers Joseph Elaban, and Tommy Elaban; sisters Gerry Elaban and Cathy Elaban. William is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren along with numerous cousins. Predeceased by mother Abigail Elaban; father Joseph Elaban; and brother George Elaban.

Richard Wayne Cohen
December 3, 1955 – May 17, 2017

Richard Wayne Cohen, 61, of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi, was born in Brooklyn, NY on Dec. 3, 1955, and passed away on May 17, 2017 in Honolulu. Richard worked as a Senior Software Engineer at the Keck Observatory.

He is survived by his son, Lucas Cohen of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi; daughter Emily Cohen of Tacoma, WA; their mother, Silvia Castioni of Kamuela, Hawaiʻi; Richard’s mother Barbara Cohen of Tucson, AZ; and his sister Caryn Cohen of Hyattsville, MD.

Private services will be held.

David “Kawika” D. Ham
May 23, 1949 – May 16, 2017

David “Kawika” D. Ham, 67, of Volcano, HI. He passed on May 16, 2017 at his home in Volcano. He was born on May 23, 1949 in Honolulu and raised in Waimanalo, HI.

He is the son of Robert & Anna Ham (both deceased). Brother William “Smoky” Ham (deceased), sister Barbara “Kanani” Ham, six nieces, three nephews, numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He graduated from Kalani High School, class of 1967. He served in the US Army First Calvary Division in Vietnam. He was a decorated war hero, receiving three Distinguished Flying Cross Medals, the Bronze Star Medal, along with numerous other metals.

He was employed at the University Of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa campus and Anaola Builders. A celebration of Kawika’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, June 3, at Hale Inu in Hilo. There will be a private scattering of ashes in Waimanalo, HI at a later date.

Tulene Ragonton
February 23, 1962 – May 12, 2017

Tulene Ragonton, 55, of Honokaʻa passed away on May 12, 2017. He was born on Feb. 23, 1962 in Waimea, Kauaʻi. Celebration of Life held.

He is survived by his spouse Faith W. Kauai-Ragonton; mother Lorita Kaleimakalii Mooiki; father Francisco Ragonton; grandparents Silvino Ragonton, Timotea Rabe, Louis Kekiahi Mooiki and Agnes Kahowahiwa Naanielua; and son Nikklaus Agular. Tulene is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Sally Ann Sarmiento
June 25, 1943 – May 20, 2017

Sally Ann Sarmiento, 73, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on May 20, 2017, in the care of Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 25, 1943 in Hilo, Hawaiʻi.

Sally is pre-deceased by her parents Valentine and Mary Silva; brother Lionel Silva, and sister Lorraine Rosa. She is survived by her husband Rolando Sarmiento; son Roland (Kim) Sarmiento; daughter’s Paula (Steve) Iiams, Melissa (George) Namauu, Renee (Chris) Ross; brother, Herman Silva; sister’s Dorothy Shishido, Diane Keller, Kathleen Medieros, and Shirley Sanchez; 16 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.

Patricia Ulumealani Layton

Patricia Ulumealani Layton
November 8, 1935 – May 18, 2017

Patricia Ulumealani Layton, 81, of Wailuku, passed away on May 18, 2017 at her home with Hospice Care. She was born on Nov. 8, 1935 in Honolulu.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Ha‘ikū.

Family request casual aloha attire.

Patricia was a graduate of Farrington High School. She raised four children as a single parent through the 60s, 70s & 80s. She volunteered often throughout her life always looking out for those with less or falling on hard times. She dispatched for Freeman Guards, worked at Crazy Shirts, and managed public housing in Hilo before moving to Maui. On Maui she helped seniors while working at M.E.O. until her retirement. Post retirement she could be seen on her scooter through Maui Lani Parkway with her k9 companion Nani.

She is survived by her children, Michele H. Amison-Fellezs, Patricia U. Layton, and Jacque Mulleitner; step-children, Charles K. Tilton, David Tilton, Leilani Brosnan, and Lani Tilton; grandchildren, Jennifer Layton Gunter, Kari Layton, Gabe Imaoka, Konane Kishi, Amber Olson, Jr. Kishi, and Chase Kishi; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Patricia was predeceased by her son, Michael F. Layton.

Philip Adrian Genobia

Philip Adrian Genobia
April 21, 1958 – May 12, 2017

Philip Adrian Genobia, 59, of Waiehu, passed away at home on May 12, 2017. He was born in Lahaina on April 21, 1958, and raised in Honolulu before returning to Maui. Philip retired from the State of Hawai‘i – H.P. Baldwin High School as a Campus Security Officer.

He is survived by his parents, Fortunato and Natividad; sisters, Delphine Martinez (late Ponch), Donna Kuewa, Dorene Genobia; his brother, Lawrence (Tammy), and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Ballard Mortuary in Kahului. Visitation will be from 4-5:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m.; Refreshments will be provided following the service. Releasing of his ashes will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Mala Wharf in Lahaina at 10 a.m.
