Fermented Foods Workshop Series Beginning May 28
Jasmine Silverstein, founder and owner of HeartBeet Foods, will be teaching a hands-on fermented foods workshop series every Sunday beginning May 28 through July 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sweet Cane Café in Hilo.
Participants will learn how to create their own probiotic-rich foods at home, including sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt and more.
According to Silverstein, probiotics–which can be attained through fermented foods–can aid in digestion, clear skin and boost energy.
“Fermented foods have been a part of every ancient culture throughout history,” Silverstein said in an announcement for the workshop. “Yet modern food processing has inadvertently removed these living foods from our diets, and replaced them with processed, refined, low-nutrient substitutes. With the current rise in health issues, these foods are more important than ever!”
All supplies and organic ingredients for the class will be provided and students will get to bring home their finished product. No cooking skills are necessary.
The cost to attend is $35 per class, or $200 for the whole series. Space is limited. To RSVP or learn more, call Jasmine at (808) 443-1863, email heartbeetcatering@gmail.com or visit www.HeartBeetFoods.com.
HeartBeetFoods is a whole-foods based catering company based in Hilo offering personal chef services, retreat catering, gluten-free, vegan wedding cakes and more.
Silverstein began experimenting with fermented foods in 2011 after being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. She found microbe-rich foods to be highly beneficial for her health, and hopes to inspire others to cultivate their own well-being through food.
