Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home to Host Spring Fling Dance

Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home will host a Spring Fling Dance for its residents and their families on Saturday, March 18, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The dance is the result of a partnership with the Hilo Elks Lodge, which created a grant opportunity that fit perfectly in helping the residents of Yukio Okutsu.

“Lily Chan-Harris, treasurer of the Hilo Elks Lodge, had contacted me back in January and shared that they were putting together a grant and wanted to reach out to the community and they wanted to give back to our veterans,” said Yukio Okutsu Recreation Director Stacyn Lopez. “They have planned and wanted to do some kind of special activity for our veterans. We shared some of the highlights and special activities that our veterans enjoyed in the past and we came up with the idea of putting together a “Spring Fling Dance/Dinner” for our veterans.”

Attendees are encouraged to dress in aloha attire.

All of the planning for this event is being handled by the Hilo Elks Lodge, which includes the decorations, assembling the menu for this special night, as well as booking a special band to perform for the veterans with music that they all enjoy.

The planning phase has been a collaboration between the Hilo Elks Lodge, the staff at Yukio Okutsu and most importantly, with feedback from the veteran residents.

The only state veterans facility in Hawai‘i, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home takes care of short-term rehabilitation for those who need extra assistance while recovering from a stay at the hospital. The goal is to get veterans back home with their loved ones. The facility also provides residential care for those who have long-term care needs.

Yukio Okutsu services all veterans, regardless of the location of service or if their unit was not in Hawai‘i. Yukio Okutsu comprehensive senior care services include skilled nursing, senior living, pharmacy, rehabilitation therapy and hospice services.
