Madeline Furtado Funes, 91, of Makawao, Maui, passed away on Feb. 13, 2017, under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on March 13, 1925, in Kula, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Madeline was predeceased by her husband, William Funes. She is survived by her son, Robert Fune; daughter, Jane (Francis) De Lara; grandchildren, Dawn ( Rodney ) Perreira, Wayne De Lara, Terri-Ann Funes-Correa, Everet Robert Fune; and great grandchildren, Amanda Perreira, Emily Perreira, Elizabeth De Lara-Inouye, Cassandra Ann Calasa-Fune, Brianna Perry, Bryceton Morreira, and Braedon Sniffen.

Edna Sachiko Yoshida, 98 of Lahaina, Maui passed away on Feb. 9, 2017, under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on July 18, 1918, in California.

A memorial for Edna will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Michael Dale) Napora, Barbara Yoshida Potts; grandchild, Ethan (Angeline) Napora; and great-grandchild, Hailey Jade Napora.

Jennie Joram Rujke, 37 of Kahului passed away Feb. 8, 2017. She was born June 17, 1979 in the Marshall Islands.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. Overnight vigil will begin at 5 p.m. with prayer service at 6 p.m. Vigil continues until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 with burial to follow at 11 a.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.

Jennie is survived by her husband, Lee K. Rujke; son, Phillip T. Joram; mother, Anthina Joram; brothers, Edgar Joram, Edward Joram and sister, Carnnie Joram. She is predeceased by her father, Enlik Joram.

Hannah (Morton) Kamai
August 12, 1931 – February 7, 2017

Hannah (Morton) Kamai, 85, of Paukukalo, Maui, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 under the care of Islands Hospice.

Born on Aug. 12, 1931 in Waiheʻe Valley, Maui, she was the last surviving of 13 children born to Benjamin and Rebecca W. Morton.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kahului. Service will begin at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku at 2 p.m.

Hannah was a retired supervisor at Kalima O Maui. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling stories of her life growing up in Waiheʻe, attending church functions, doing yardwork, and going on long rides around her beloved island of Maui. She was predeceased by her husband, Ambrose K. Kamai, Sr., daughter, Lorna L. Kamai, and son, Kelvin A. Kamai. She is survived by her sons, Ambrose K. (Pat) Kamai, Jr., William “Bill” (Sandy) Kamai; daughters, Kayleen P. (Yasuo, deceased) Sato, Phyllis K. (Wayne, Sr.) Vidinha, Merle N. Ventura, Penny O. Schamel (Jeff Lee), and Lynn K. Kamai; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, and her ever-protective companion, Tippy.

Roy Naopuu
June 20, 1943 – February 7, 2017

Roy Naopuu, 73, of Kula, passed away on Feb. 7, 2017 at Kula Hospital. He was born on June 20, 1943 in Haʻikū, Maui.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Maliko Bay, scattering of his ashes at sea will follow.

Family requests loose flowers and ti-leaf leis only.

Roy was a truck driver and worked for a construction company.

He is survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, and his Kula family of 30 years. Roy was predeceased by his parents, David Noa Naopuu and Julia Pahuwai.

Melvin A. Andrade, Sr.

August 16, 1934 – February 7, 2017

Melvin A. Andrade Sr., 82 of Haʻikū, passed away on Feb. 7, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 16, 1934 in Pāʻia, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at St. Anthony Church, Wailuku; mass will begin at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.

Melvin was a Supervisor and Mechanic with Maui Land & Pine, Hawaiian Equipment and was a CDL instructor.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Andrade; sons, Melvin A. (Gina) Andrade Jr., George R. (Ruby) Andrade Sr., Timothy P. (Kim) Andrade; 6 grandchildren, Heather, George, Arielle, Travis, Hanalei, Ikaika; 7 great-grandchildren, Alia Jane, Dylan, Taylor, Ryder, Hurley, Kaya, and Kaylee; brother, Jerome “Jerry” (Gladys) Andrade; and sister, Mary Nell Javier.

Melvin was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Andrade.

Joseph Anthony Frye Sr.
July 27, 1937 – February 7, 2017

Joseph Anthony Frye Sr., 79, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on Feb. 7, 2017, at Kahuku Hospital in Kahuku, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. He was born on July 27, 1937, in Camden, New Jersey.

Joseph retired as the Fuel Truck Operator for Hawaiian Airlines Kahului, Maui Airport. He was a devoted member of the Maui Lion’s Club and an Army Veteran.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony Sr. (Lori) Buchanan of Molokai, Joseph Jr. (Rozlyn) Frye of Kahului, Maui; daughter, Deana (Willy) Gresham of Irving, Texas; sisters, Diane of Florida and Patricia of Colorado; and many beloved Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at the Makawao Veterans Cemetery Pavillion; burial to follow at 10:30 am. The family requests casual attire.

Herbert Kalanimakakauoku Nobu Richardson

Herbert Kalanimakakauoku Nobu Richardson
June 18, 1953 – February 3, 2017

Herbert Kalanimakakauoku Nobu Richardson, 63 of Kahului, Maui passed away suddenly on Feb. 3, 2017. He was born on June 18, 1953 in Honolulu. Herbert worked at the Ma’alaea Maui Electric Plant as a security officer. He had a passion for golf and was a devoted papa and made sure his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were well taken cared of.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 36 years Leilani “Aunty Babes” Richardson, daughter Dolly (Kawika) Aganos; Brothers Boyd Aukai (Karen) Richardson, Fugate (Sam) Richardson; Sister Kimi Poole; grandchildren Nani (Tony) Ancog, Kaimana (Kammy), Kainalu (Jade), Kekoa (Ka-Sandra), Sanoe, Kamana’opono; greatgrandchildren Taven, Khloe, Eli, Ezekiel, Kaeo, Johnny, Kolten, and Tevai.

Celebration of Life and viewing over Urn will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Ballard’s Family Mortuary in Kahului, Maui at 5:30 p.m.; services at 6:30 p.m.
