Diver Drowns Off O‘oma Beach

First responders arrived at Kohanaiki- O‘oma Beach (North of “Pine Trees” surf break) on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at 4:06 p.m. due to a report of a missing diver.

The overdue diver was last seen approximately 1.5 hours before the 911 report was called in.

The diver reportedly went into the ocean alone along the coastline and never returned.

Hawai‘i Fire Department resources and Kohanaiki Ski conducted a search of the coastline where the diver was last seen.

C-1 retrieved victim with Billy Pugh net and transported him to awaiting medic unit.

The victim was in cardio/pulmonary arrest.

Medic-7 treated and transported the 34-year-old male victim to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
