Phyllis Abreu
May 31, 1933 – November 13, 2016

Phyllis Abreu, 83 of Kokomo, Maui passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 13, 2016. She was born on May 31, 1933, in Pā‘ia, Maui.

Phyllis was known for her love of children. She babysat many children in her lifetime, who consider her their “Grandma” today. Her love of God and her Church was a vital part of her life where she once served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education Teacher. She also looked forward and enjoyed her Prayer Group Women each Tuesday along with helping to make sweet bread and malasada’s with the women of St. Joseph.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at St. Joseph Church in Makawao. Mass will begin at 11 a.m., burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.

Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, William M. Abreu; brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Anthony, Kenneth, George, James, Thomas DeCoite and a sister, Marion Meyers. She is survived by her sons, Billy (Lei) Abreu, Michael (Freda) Abreu; daughters, Shonie Abreu, Nanette (Herbert) Sagon, Colette (Gerald) Rodrigues; siblings, Sister Maria Goretti DeCoite, Bernadette Franco, Paul DeCoite, Peter DeCoite, Richard DeCoite, Agnes Fernandez, Ann Cravalho, Charles DeCoite, Donna Chong; grandchildren, Desiree Kawasaki, Liana Abreu, Dina Abreu, Tracy Freitas, Billie-Jean Beria, Anstin Rodrigues, Randie Santiago, Lokana Reed, Mikey Abreu, Billy Boy Abreu, Emily Abreu and 21 Great Grand Children.

August 10, 1940 – November 13, 2016

Eleanor Marie Martin, 76, of Kīhei, passed away on Nov. 13, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 10, 1940 in Pā‘ia, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului, service will begin at 7 p.m.

Eleanor retired from the State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services where she worked as a Social Worker.

She is survived by her son, Bryce (Dolly) Suggs; daughters, Suzie (Mark) Hawkins, Wendy (Harry) Akima, Sondi (Dave) Lopes, Kye (Eric) Roan, Malia Suggs, and Kaulana Suggs; brothers, Philip “Moki” (Cindy) Martin, and Ben (Mahina) Martin; 4 grandchildren, Kona, Keawe, Crystal, and David Lee; 4 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Sofia, Damian, and Marcus.

Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, James “Sonny” Martin; sisters, Pat Martin, Dolores “Dolly” Martin; and granddaughter, Auli’i Suggs.

Rodrigo Quiocho Briones, 90, of Kahului, Maui, passed away on Nov. 12, 2016. He was born on Feb. 26, 1926 in Ewa Beach, Honolulu.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary. A second visitation will also be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Christ the King Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Rodrigo was a Tractor Operator for Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Briones; and daughter, Aurora Domingo. He is survived by his sons, Edmund Briones, Nelson (Maria) Briones, Cesar Briones; daughters, Angie (Danny) Dimacali, Lourdes (Tim) Choo, Ofelia (Dante) Cadiz, Agnes (Steve) Nguyen; brothers, John Martin Briones, Ricky Briones, Alfred (Cecilia) Briones; sisters, Marie Zarrella, Linda (Luther) Floyd; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Thomas Alan La Croix
May 9, 1971 – November 10, 2016

Thomas Alan La Croix, Jr., 45, of Haʻikū, Maui, passed away on Nov. 10, 2016, at his home under the care of Islands Hospice. He was born on May 9, 1971, in Fort Hood, Texas.

A celebration of his life will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Aura May La Croix; sons, Thomas La Croix III, Christopher George La Croix; parents, Tom & Kathy La Croix, Sr.; brother, Joshua (Mea) La Croix; niece, Reilly; nephew, Josh Jr.; uncles, Wayne (Rosalind) La Croix, John (Patricia) La Croix; aunt, Lynn (Joe) Trudeau; and numerous cousins; along with hanai brothers – Koa Puna MC.
