After graduating from Pepperdine University, Mariye returned to Maui, making many friends while working for Wailea Development Co. and the Maui Prince Hotel. She took a break to take care of her three children, then helped manage her husband’s business—the Wailuku Dental Group—for many years. Mariye was a gifted athlete, with a passion for tennis and golf. For over 15 years, she played on USTA adult tennis teams, winning many league and tournament awards. Competitors and teammates alike respected her talent but truly appreciated her kind, generous spirit and quirky sense of humor. She made the funniest Halloween costumes and wasn’t afraid to wear them on the court. And while she worked hard juggling work demands and being a taxi driver to three busy kids, she always made time for good friends and family. She will be deeply and profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, bring your fond memories and join us in celebrating Mariye’s life on Friday, Sept. 23 at Wailuku Hongwanji. Visitation will start at 4 p.m., services at 5 p.m.
Robert Clinton Zahl, 74, passed away on Sept. 8, 2016, at Hale Makua – Kahului, Maui. He was born on January 29, 1942 in Walla Walla, Washington. He was a retired electrician with H C & S.Robert was pre-deceased by his father, Clinton Herman Zahl; mother – Stella Martha Inder; brother – Carl Zahl: nephew – Josh Zahl. He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Katherine) Zahl; sister – Patty (Ted) Reid; brother – John (Cindy) Zahl; sister – Kathy (Bill) Young; brother – David (Nancy) Zahl and several nieces and nephews. No services were held.
Shirley Ann Yukiko Haunani Acoba, 66, of Kahului, passed away on Sept. 6, 2016, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on May 7, 1950, in Wailuku, Maui.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at Norman’s Mortuary; eulogy will begin at 10:45 a.m.; prayer service will start at 11 a.m.; cremation will follow.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Helen & George Tanaka, and brothers, Gary and Ronald Tanaka. She is survived by her sons & daughters, Lisa Briones (David Willis), John & Wanda Briones, Angela Briones (Wilson Kanakaole), Steven & Tina Briones, Christina & Presco Rosete, Sherrylee & Michael Watanabe, Melanie & Fredy Vargas, Renalee Romero; brother, Glen Tanaka; 17 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Born in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Natasha was raised on the islands of O’ahu and Lānaʻi. She graduated from Lānaʻi High School in the class of 2000. She was employed at the Four Seasons Mānele Bay Hotel where she had worked for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Corey A. Jenkins and 3 sons, Nik Suaglar, Jr., Jahriah A. Jenkins, and Carter J. Jenkins. Natasha is also survived by her parents, Bonnie Marie Phelps and Billy Gene Mosley; her brothers, Brandon Phelps, Darrin Phelps, Corey Phelps, and Justin Phelps. She was hanai sister to Marisa Stohner, Jennifer Pimentel and the late Christopher Hera. Natasha was the granddaughter of Roberto and Patricia Hera, Andres Calunod and the late Leonie Y. L. Calunod. She is survived by many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, Lānaʻi. Public visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with funeral mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Lānaʻi Cemetery.
