Learn ‘Conscious Communication’ at Hilo Public Library
Hilo Public Library features a free public presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 6 p.m. The topic is “Conscious Communication: How to Engage in Thoughtful Expression and Active Listening” with speaker Julie Mitchell.
“Do you want to better understand people and situations, build trust and rapport and resolve differences?”said librarian Claire Seu. “Come and learn practical tools you can use to become a better communicator at home, at work, and in the world.”
This program is free and suitable for all ages.

Julie Mitchell grew up in Los Angeles and received her B.A. in sociology from the University of California, Irvine. Since moving to East Hawai‘i in 1998, she has worked as education coordinator of Volcano Art Center, general manager of Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and executive director of Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center.
Mitchell holds a Certificate in Professional Development for Not-for-Profit Management from Hawai‘i Community College and is a graduate of The Hawai‘i Island Leadership Series—Ulumau, The Leadership Works Experience and The Weinberg Fellows Program. She received a 2016 AIM For Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Non Profit Management. In addition to her administrative duties, she is also a mediator, facilitator and trainer at Ku‘ikahi.
