HPD Arrests 20 Motorists for DUI Offenses
During the week of Aug. 8 through 14, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, 657 DUI arrests have been made compared with 637 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.1%.
There have been 879 major accidents so far this year compared with 948 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.3%.
So far this year, there have been 13 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities, compared with 11 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 14 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 18.2% for fatal crashes and an increase of 7.1% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
