HPD Arrests 14 Motorists for DUI Offenses

During the week of July 18 through 24, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 605 DUI arrests compared with 562 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.7 percent.

There have been 804 major accidents so far this year compared with 866 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.2 percent.

So far this year, there have been 12 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 13 fatalities, compared with 10 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 13 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 20 percent for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
