UH-Hilo Softball Ranked Tenth in West Region
The University of Hawai’i at Hilo softball team has some work to do if it wants to make its first NCAA West Regional appearance since 2013.
Wednesday’s release of the West Region rankings places UH-Hilo at tenth, two spots out of a regional berth. The Vulcans need to finish in the top eight in the region to advance to postseason play.
UH-Hilo is 25-16 overall on the season and 24-16 in regional competition. The Vulcans have eight games remaining, four each against Chaminade and Hawai’i Pacific University.
Three other PacWest Conference softball teams were listed in the regional rankings. Azusa Pacific (22-8, 20-8) sits third, just outside of a potential bid to host a sub-regional. California Baptist (34-6, 29-6) is right behind APU in fourth place, and Dixie State (27-9, 27-8) ranks seventh.
UH-Hilo visits Chaminade on Friday in a doubleheader at Central O’ahu Regional Park. Game one is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
