Hawai’i County Fire Department fire fighters are battling a runaway brush fire located on the mauka, or mountain, side of Waimea.
HFD Assistant Fire Chief Gantry Andrade told Big Island Now Monday that the fire started near a residential area. The wind eventually pushed the fire into pasture land. As of 1:15 p.m., the fire had burned 110 acres.
The fire started at 10:34 a.m.
Fire crews are accessing the fire through Poliahu Alanui.
There are currently no structures being impacted by the fire, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
