PIXABAY blood driveWest Hawai’i blood drives scheduled by the Blood Bank of Hawai’i for the month of March have been canceled.

BBH announced Tuesday that the scheduled drives have been canceled “proactively” as the Hawai’i Department of Health has Kailua-Kona listed as a high risk area in the Big Island’s dengue fever outbreak.

The following cancellations have been made:

  • March 9 at LDS Kona from 11:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. (80 pint goal)
  • Match 10 at Mauna Kea Beach from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (80 pint goal)
  • March 11 at Konawaena High School from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (78 pint goal)

BBH officials say they have increased capacity to existing drives on Oahu, as well as bus drives within BBH’s parking lot during scheduled drives to make up for the 238-pint loss.
