High scores were a theme on Thursday at the opening round of the Amer Ari Invitational, held at the Waikoloa Beach Resort.

A total of 56 golfers finished at even-par or better on the opening day of the intercollegiate event, led by Oregon State’s Conner Kumpula, who leads the field with a 6-under-par 66. His only hiccup came on the par-3 seventh hole, where he double bogeyed to bring his score back down to -6.

Stanford’s David Boote is alone in second place with a 5-under-par 67.

In the team competition, two top-10 teams from the Pac-12 Conference are at the head of the leaderboard after the first round. Fifth-ranked Stanford, led by Boote, and seventh-ranked Southern California each sit at 10-under-par. UCLA, ranked 23rd, is alone in third place at 9-under-par, followed by Oregon at 6-under-par.
