Three state tournament berths will be handed out during this week’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation Girls Basketball Tournament, held Friday and Saturday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Two berths will be decided in Division II, since there was no outright regular season champion this season. The winner of each of Friday’s semifinal games will get a state tournament berth, and the winner of Saturday’s championship game will be considered the highest entrant into the state field of 12.

In Division I, Konawaena gained one of the two state berths with its win over Hilo on Friday night. If the Wildcats defeat Waiakea on Friday night at 5:30 p.m., the second berth will be given to the winner of the second semifinal, pitting Honoka’a against Hilo. The winner of Saturday’s championship contest will get one of the four seeded spots in the state tournament.

Saturday night’s championship games will be broadcast on ESPN Radio stations AM 850 in Hilo, AM 790 in Kona, and at ESPNHawaii.com.
